>>>UPDATE: Release info, comparison swatches and lip swatches added. Scroll to the bottom!

Instagram blew up yesterday when ColourPop Cosmetics dropped a bomb in the form of new super affordable LIQUID lipsticks. ColourPop posted the above sneak peek image without explanation. Then Bloggers/MUAs started posting about the surprise packages they received in the mail with new liquid lipsticks from the brand. This news spread like wildfire among makeup junkies eager to learn more about their new product. If you follow me on Instagram then you would have seen several updates from me regarding this new product including swatches.

ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip Liquid Lipsticks
ColourPop's new Ultra Matte Lip liquid lipsticks will debut 25 shades with an impressive range from red, pink and corals to purples, browns and nudes.

The purples are the shades I'm most excited about and will be the ones I try first. Although ColourPop's other products are top notch and I don't believe they'd put something one the market that wasn't just as good as their current products. I don't know what their starting stock will be but I'm sure the purples will be among the first to sell out so get these first if you're interested in them.

ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip Liquid Lipsticks, Nudes and Pinks
These shades will also be very popular as well. I've seen a lot of interests in Trap as griege shades are very popular right now and many people are still looking for their next Cashmere dupe. I love the fact that ColourPop gave us multiple nude options that are sure to suit every skin tone.

ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip Liquid Lipsticks, Reds to Corals
Any of these shades will be perfect for Summer. Creeper looks like a classic red perfect year round and a must have in every collection.

ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip Liquid Lipsticks, Purples to Browns
Lovely purples! I haven't decided if I'm just getting two or all four but I'll definitely be placing a small order. Too much makeup, so little money lol. I need a separate job just for makeup if I want to keep up with everything new coming out that I want. So for now I'll pick and choose.

Swatches of all ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip Liquid Lipsticks
Here's a look at swatches all in one place that are all fully dry. Also because the previous swatches excluded one shade accidentally, which was Buds and it is included here. The lighting here does seem a little too bright but it does give you an idea of how the shades will look in different settings.

Btw the way, did I mention these are only going to be $6?!!! That's almost unheard of, although Sleek Makeup does sell their liquid lipsticks for $7.

Now for a couple comparison swatches with Lime Crime and Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipsticks:

ColourPop Trap vs Lime Crime Cashmere and Faded
As you can see from these swatches, Lime Crime liquid lipsticks apply more streaky. ColourPop clearly has a more even formula. Trap looks like a dupe that beats the original as far as formula is concerned.

ColourPop Midi vs ABH Pure Hollywood
These are close but Midi is actually a tad pinker than ABH Pure Hollywood. But it's a great alternative if saving money is your main concern.

ColorPop Bumble vs Lime Crime Riot
A great find among ColourPop's new lippies especially with so many people looking for alternative to Lime Crime since their recent debacle left many customers seeking to spend their money elsewhere. This dupe is spot on. Not to mention Lime Crime Velvetines will set you back $20 versus $6 with ColourPop.

Lastly, here's a product breakdown for the amount of lipstick you get from various popular liquid lipsticks currently on the market. I added in a couple other indie brands that are popular as well.
  • Lime Crime, 0.088 fl oz ($20)
  • LaSplash Cosmetics, 0.10 fl oz ($12 now $14)
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills, 0.11 fl oz ($20)
  • ColourPop Cosmetics, 0.11 fl oz ($6)
  • Lic Cosmetics, 0.117 fl oz ($16)
  • Makeup Monster Cosmetics, 0.152 ($13.95)
  • Fyrinnae Cosmetics, 0.169 ($12)
  • Jeffree Star Cosmetics, 0.19 fl oz ($18)
  • Kat Von D, 0.22 fl oz ($19)
  • Pretty Zombie Cosmetics, 0.27 fl oz ($12)
ColourPop Cosmetics has the lowest price at first glance but Pretty Zombie Cosmetics offers over double the product for double the price so they are just as good of a bargain as ColourPop. However, they have a very small range with only 8 shades. I have yet to purchase from them but I have heard nothing but praises about the company. The one negative, however, is that their Instagram page neglects posting diverse images of people wearing their products, despite numerous complaints. Last I checked, out of all their 173 posts there were only two shown with WOC wearing their shades smh.

ColourPop will be launching these next week on June 25th on their website. There isn't an exact time so stalk the site and keep watch on social media as they'll be sure to break the news first. Who else is excited? Did you already make a mental note of the shades you want. Let me know in the comments.

  1. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I have gotten to where I ONLY wear lip color that drys down to a "dry to the touch" texture. But finding brands that offer this type of product isn't very easy. You have provided some wonderful information and I especially appreciate the pictures of the colors. This is my first visit to your blog and you do a wonderful job! Very informative and interesting to read. I'll definitely be back to read more! Have a great weekend
